Every year in october a lot of people will be vaccinated against the flu [ the flu injection ]. In 2009 there has also been vaccinated against the H1N1 or swine flu. The flu injection is free for people who have an increased risk to a severe infection with the flu. This counts for peopele who are above the age of 60 and/or are suffering from one or more of the following illnesses : cardiac or pulmonary disease, diabetes, kidneydisease, immunodeficiency caused by illness or treatment.

Does the flu injection have side-effects?

The injection can lead to a painful arm during a day or two, you cannot get ill by the injection itself. You cannot get the flu from the injection, because the vaccin contains inactivated virus particles.

How does the flu injection work?

When you receive the flu injection, your body will respond by making antibodies against the virus. The flu injection is active after two weeks. When you will be infected afterwards with the influenza virus, the antibodies will dispose of the virus.

Why every year the flu injection?

The influenza virus changes rapidly every year. The body does not recognize the renewed influenza. That's why you can get the flu year in year out. That's why you will need the flu injection every autumn [ end october, begin november ]. The flu injection only is active against the real influenza. So not against the common cold. You will receive the flu injection in the upper arm. Would you remind this concerning the clothes you wear?

When is the flu injection contra-indicated?

There are several reasons when it is not allowed to give the flu injection: temperatures above 38 degrees Celsius, pregnancy or an allergy to chickenproteins. Would you mind telling our assistant when this is the case.

On thursday 14 november 2019 from 16:00 - 18:00 and on tuesday 19 november 2019 from 14:00 - 16:30 the flu injections will be administered.
